Visit to Winchester Cathedral

A few weeks ago, Family History Group 1 visited Winchester Cathedral. We had a guided tour from a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide. We learnt of the Saxon cathedral on an adjacent site, which was superseded by a Norman building, the longest in the world at the time, dedicated to St Swithin. Of course we had a look at Jane Austen’s tomb too.

We did not unfortunately have time to visit the exhibition “Kings and Scribes”, but as the entry ticket is valid for a year, we are hoping, either individually or together, to visit that at a later date.

If you are interested in exploring your own family history, do consider joining our group. We will have lots of useful tips to share with you and we have some very interesting discussions.
